The Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme

is an Australian Government initiative to help people living or working outside of terrestrial mobile phone coverage to purchase satellite mobile phones.

Information for phone purchasers

  • You must NOT have already purchased a satellite phone before your approval comes through - only new purchases are qualified for the Subsidy.
  • Eligible consumers include individuals, small businesses, community groups, not-for-profit organisations, Indigenous corporations, emergency service organisations, health organisations and educational institutions.
  • Eligible applicants must spend 180 days over a two year period outside of terrestrial mobile phone coverage.
  • The application must be approved before the phone is purchased. Note: The subsidy is paid to dealers, who deduct it from the retail price of the phone to consumers.
  • To claim the subsidy, you must sign up with a provider and provide the dealer with proof of connection and your provider allocated phone number.

While compact, the Thuraya SO-2510 is also powerful. It provides the convenience and mobility of uninterrupted border-to-border satellite communication across Thuraya’s coverage area spanning more than 140 countries across Asia, Australia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

Voice and data

With the Thuraya SO-2510, you can make voice calls, plus send or receive SMS messages,faxes and data. The Thuraya SO-2510 is GmPRS enabled and enables you to easily send/receive emails and browse the web. Used with your connected laptop, access the internet at download/upload speeds of 60/15 kbps. Fax and data speeds are 9.6 kbps.

GPS navigation services

The Thuraya SO-2510 enables you to find waypoints quickly and safely with its in-built GPS navigation functionality.

Languages

The Thuraya SO-2510 supports 12 languages, including: Arabic, English, Farsi, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Urdu.

In GSM mode you can make and receive calls in all GSM areas with 900, 1800 or 1900 MHz frequencies. GSM tri-band

The dual-mode satellite and GSM functionality of the Thuraya SG-2520 enables you to roam onto the networks of GSM providers. Using a Thuraya SIM card with GSM mode selected on your handset, you can make calls using our GSM partner networks, comprising more than 270 providers across 140 countries. You can also use the SIM card of a GSM partner in your Thuraya handset, allowing you to make and receive calls via an existing GSM phone number.

Bluetooth
